Trailer Tyres, Wheels & Valves

Trailer tyre inspection and replacement with attention to age cracking, structural damage, load suitability, valves, wheels and unusual wear.

Trailer Tyres, Wheels & Valves

Trailer tyres can age before they wear out

Many trailers spend long periods standing outdoors and cover relatively low annual mileage. That means a tyre can retain visible tread while the rubber is ageing, cracking or suffering damage around the shoulder and sidewall.

Our workshop photographs include severe real-world tyre deterioration with cracking and exposed structural material—exactly the type of defect that can be missed if only tread depth is considered.

What we look for

We inspect for cracking, cuts, bulges, exposed cords or structure, abnormal wear, damage from age or storage, valve condition, obvious pressure concerns and wheel condition. Tyre size, load capability and suitability for the trailer also matter.

If a tyre is unsafe, replacement is more important than extracting the last few millimetres of tread life.

Tyres as part of servicing

Tyres and wheels are included in the wider trailer condition assessment during servicing. If you only need a tyre problem investigated, contact us with the tyre size and trailer details.

Central Scotland Trailer Servicing Centre is workshop-based in Tillicoultry and is operated by JRGM Technical Services LLP.

Frequently asked questions

My trailer tyres have lots of tread. Can they still be unsafe?

Yes. Tread depth is only one part of tyre condition. Cracking, bulges, structural damage, ageing, incorrect load capability or other deterioration can make a tyre unsuitable even when tread remains.

Do trailer tyres suffer from standing in one place?

Long storage can contribute to ageing, flat spotting, pressure loss and environmental deterioration. Regular inspection is important on trailers that are used infrequently.

Can you inspect the wheels as well as the tyres?

Yes. Wheel condition and security form part of a sensible trailer tyre and running-gear inspection.
