Trailer Servicing

Comprehensive workshop trailer servicing with brakes, bearings, tyres, coupling, running gear, lights and safety-critical components checked as appropriate.

Trailer Servicing

A proper trailer service looks beyond a quick external check

Trailers often cover fewer miles than cars, but long periods standing, weather exposure, contamination and corrosion can create faults that are easy to miss. Our workshop servicing is intended to find developing problems before they become failures at the roadside.

Where appropriate we remove brake drums so the internal braking components, hubs and bearings can be inspected rather than relying only on how the trailer feels when moved.

What we inspect

Braking system: shoes, springs, expanders, adjusters, drums, cables and overrun operation where fitted. Running gear: hubs, bearings, suspension, axle condition and fixings. Tyres and wheels: tread condition, cracking, damage, inflation condition, wheel security and suitability. Electrics: road lights, plug, cable and obvious wiring faults. Coupling: hitch, drawtube, handbrake, breakaway cable and jockey wheel condition as applicable.

The exact checks depend on trailer type and construction. Any additional repair work is discussed rather than silently added.

How often should a trailer be serviced?

Annual servicing is commonly recommended for regularly used braked trailers, but usage, storage, age, environment and manufacturer guidance all matter. Commercial, high-mileage, heavily loaded or infrequently used trailers can require closer attention.

Central Scotland Trailer Servicing Centre is workshop-based in Tillicoultry and is operated by JRGM Technical Services LLP.

Frequently asked questions

Do you remove the brake drums during a trailer service?

Where inspection requires it, yes. Removing the drums allows the internal brake components, drum condition, hubs and bearings to be assessed rather than judging the system only from outside.

Can you service trailers that have been standing for a long time?

Yes. Long-term storage can contribute to seized brakes, corrosion, tyre deterioration and electrical faults, so a thorough inspection before returning the trailer to regular use is sensible.

Do you service unbraked trailers?

Yes. Unbraked trailers still need wheel bearings, tyres, coupling, chassis, lights and other safety-critical items checked.

Do you service trailers up to 3,500kg?

The CSTSC service is aimed at light trailers up to 3,500kg. Contact us with the trailer details if you are unsure.
