Brakes and tyres are only part of the running gear
The axle, suspension and mounting structure carry the trailer and transmit braking and road loads into the chassis. Corrosion, loose or damaged fixings, worn bushes or damaged springs need to be considered as part of the whole system.
The workshop images supplied for this site include heavy corrosion around suspension and axle hardware found during real repair work.
Leaf springs and mountings
On leaf-sprung trailers we inspect the visible condition of springs, U-bolts, plates, hangers and related mounting hardware as appropriate. Damage or serious corrosion should be addressed before it develops further.
Other suspension types are assessed according to their construction and manufacturer requirements.
Repair decisions
Not every corroded component needs automatic replacement, and not every badly corroded assembly is sensible to save. We assess the condition and explain the repair options.
Central Scotland Trailer Servicing Centre is workshop-based in Tillicoultry and is operated by JRGM Technical Services LLP.
Frequently asked questions
Can you replace trailer leaf springs?
Where the trailer design, condition and parts availability allow, suspension repairs including leaf-spring related work can be carried out.
Do you inspect axle mounting corrosion?
Visible running-gear and mounting condition is an important part of a trailer inspection. Severe corrosion may require further repair or specialist assessment.
