Couplings, Overrun Systems & Handbrakes

Inspection and repair of trailer couplings, overrun drawtubes, dampers, handbrakes, linkages and breakaway equipment.

Couplings, Overrun Systems & Handbrakes

The coupling does more than connect the trailer

On a braked trailer the coupling and overrun mechanism are part of the braking system. Wear, seizure, excessive movement or a failed damper can affect how smoothly and effectively the brakes apply and release.

Our workshop work includes drawtube and overrun-system inspection alongside wheel-brake diagnosis.

What can be checked

Depending on the design, we can inspect coupling operation, drawtube movement, damper behaviour, handbrake mechanism, brake linkage, cable actuation, breakaway cable and associated fixings.

The correct repair depends on identifying the coupling and its components rather than fitting generic parts without confirmation.

Jockey wheels and front-end hardware

Jockey wheels, clamps and related front-end hardware are also checked for condition during suitable service work because instability or damaged components can make handling the trailer unnecessarily difficult.

Central Scotland Trailer Servicing Centre is workshop-based in Tillicoultry and is operated by JRGM Technical Services LLP.

Frequently asked questions

What does the overrun damper do?

It controls movement in the coupling and helps the overrun braking system apply and release progressively rather than harshly.

Can a seized drawtube affect braking?

Yes. The drawtube and linkage need to move correctly for an overrun braking system to operate as designed.

Do you replace breakaway cables?

Breakaway cable condition and attachment are part of sensible braked-trailer checks, and replacement can be carried out where required.
